New look for Race Cors Caron's 21st annual event.
Good luck to tomorrow's competors on Tregaron's famous half marathon race. This is going to be another tough competition this year. Expect some great half marathon times despite tomorrows weather (the tail of storm Dennis).
I was commissioned last year to design a logo for Ras Cors Caron by the event organisers. Usually customers approach me to increase their sales and build a marketing campaign or improve on their brand presence. However, the Ras Cors Caron half marathon has proven very popular over the years and each year it is usually fully subscribed. The organisers wanted to give their successful annual event the professional appearence it deserved. So I designed this logo, which also enables the production of branded items and clothing that runners and friends will be proud to own.
Living close to Tregaron I know the Cors Caron area well and I am familiar with the bog landscape. I therefore used the winding pathways and reedy grasses to create a graphic of the winning ribbon that subtly changes into Cors Caron bog. The friendly and curvy typeface Fertigo Pro Regular was chosen for 'cors caron' as it has similar tails to its lettering as I have drawn on the ribbon. I married that to the modern sans serif font 'EXO 2' for 'RAS & RACE' to create a strong and unique block of text.
The runner has a 'negative space' vest to enable the logo to be very simply produced in mono. The organisers can now have a number of items produced very cost effectively using only one colour. The photograph of the banner on Tregaron Bridge shows how the orange branding creates a striking image, full of winning energy. Something the runners will certainly need tomorrow!
